Sophomore Gillian Ryan, a member of Canterbury House at the University of Michigan, has experienced a great deal of individual success in two seasons with the Wolverines.
Ryan is a two-time, NCAA All-America honorable mention (in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 800-yard freestyle relay) and a two-time All-Big Ten honoree (second team last year, first team this year).
The freestyle standout — a native of Kutztown, Pa. — is competing in Atlanta with the Wolverines this weekend in the NCAA women’s championships. Ryan anchors the 800 free relay team (ranked fourth nationally in the event). Ryan is also swimming individually in the 1,650 free (N0. 7 nationally), the 500 (12th) and the 200 (17th).
Teammate and fellow Canterbury member Becca Postoll, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., is also competing in the 500 free. Recently, she placed 11th in the 500 free at the Big Ten championship.
As a team, Michigan won the Big Ten championship this year and is ranked No. 3 in the country.
